The Board of Directors for Fort Bend County MUD No. 151 (the District) is excited to announce there are two new crosswalks being installed on S. Firethorne Rd as a continuation of our long term mobility improvement plans in the district. Phase 1 of the plan, which included over 11,500 linear feet of new sidewalks and a crosswalk across Rumson Drive, was completed earlier this year.
After this initial phase, the Board of Directors for the District was approached by a number of Firethorne residents about adding two more protected crossings along S. Firethorne where people using the walking trails would naturally cross; the first one to be located east of Wolman Elementary, and the second one to be located east of FM 1463 (between East Lakes 2 and 3).
Directors met with the county commissioner’s office and Katy ISD multiple times over the past several months to make these projects a reality. With final approval being granted by county earlier this week, construction crews we allowed to begin the work on Thursday (August 10th). In discussions school officials and considering that Katy ISD begins classes starting next week, the Board has prioritized the crosswalk adjacent to Wolman Elementary in the construction plan. The contractor will be working diligently to be substantially complete with the crosswalk adjacent to the elementary prior to the start of school, if the weather allows, and will then move to the second location immediately after. The FBCMUD 151 Board of Directors is excited to see this mobility enhancement come to life and looks forward to continuing to implement ideas to make our great community even better.
We hope residents will enjoy these new additions and look forward to sharing additional plans with you soon.
