September 11th Parks Meeting Recap

September 16, 2025

The Board of Directors of Fort Bend Municipal Utility District No. 151 met on Thursday, September 11th. Below is a summary of the items discussed during the meeting.

Playground Repairs

The Board approved repairs to playground equipment in the District.

Engineering Updates

Drainage Channel Rehabilitation – Recent rains caused erosion at the West Detention Basin shoreline and the drainage channel behind Lindsey Elementary. The District will not be charged for the failed rehabilitation work at these locations. Additional bids for further work will be reviewed at the next meeting.

South Firethorne Rd. Crosswalk – A revised draft of the Interlocal Agreement with Fort Bend County for the installation, operation and maintenance of street lighting within the District was received and is under review with the District’s legal team. The two radar signs at the crosswalk need repairs, and repainting of the crosswalks will also be considered. Quotes will be brought to the next meeting.

Reclaimed Water Booster Pump Station – Improvements are being evaluated to reduce “water hammer.” A water hammer is a hydraulic shock — a sudden pressure surge or wave in a piping system — that happens when a fluid in motion is forced to stop or change direction abruptly. It usually occurs when:

  • A valve closes too quickly.
  • A pump suddenly shuts off.
  • Flow is stopped or redirected suddenly in a pipeline.

Firethorne East Lakes Shoreline – Shoreline erosion was noted at East Lake No. 3. Restoration is planned to take place at the same time as the East Lake No. 4 project scheduled for early 2026.

Parks & Landscaping

Sidewalk collapse at the north side of the west detention pond will be inspected.

Irrigation repairs, rose removal due to rosette virus, and shade repairs at Savannah Hawk are complete. Replacement bushes will be planted in 30–60 days.

Winter rye seeding is planned for October.

The Board is reviewing options for signs to restrict parking at the mail kiosks and parks pursuant to the Park Rules adopted by the District.

Communications

The District’s autopay system for water and sewer services will be changing soon. All residents will need to re-enroll. Step-by-step instructions will be shared before the update takes effect.

Fire Protection Services

The Board is continuing discussions with the City of Katy to ensure fair coverage and cost-sharing.
