How Your MUD Prepares for Winter Storms
January 22, 2026
Have you ever wondered how your MUD prepares for winter storms?
Water and sewer plants rely on electricity to stay functional. While our District was fortunate to avoid boil water notices during Winter Storm Uri, we used that experience as a vital learning lesson for the future. After the storm, our Board conducted a thorough "post-mortem" to identify exactly where we could strengthen our infrastructure.
Since then, we have:
- Added backup power redundancies.
- Installed new generators at remote facilities.
- Improved our emergency response protocols
This week’s prep: Our District Operator has been hard at work ensuring all facilities are prepped, diesel tanks are topped off, and generators are tested. We’ve also winterized all District-owned irrigation systems.
In the event of a water emergency or urgent District update, we want to reach you quickly. We are doing everything possible to ensure an uneventful weekend for our water and sewer services, no matter what Mother Nature brings our way!
Stay warm, Firethorne!
