Firethorne Drainage Channels Desilting Project Update

See All Posts

As part of the ongoing maintenance of the Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District 151 (FBMUD 151) drainage system, the District engaged its channel maintenance contractor to remove the accumulation of silt from the bottom of the west drainage channel and place it back onto the side slopes of the channel.

The silt being removed is from normal erosion within the channel over time, and no significant issues concerning conveyance or detention capacity were noted in a recent inspection by the District’s engineer. Drainage channels typically require re-grading, re-establishment of vegetation, and restoration of areas of the side slope in addition to routine maintenance such as mowing, seeding, and fertilization.

All of the District’s drainage channels will be cleaned out in phases. The first phase of work began on December 16th and was completed by the end of the year.
